Climate Design Toolkit
2024
Collaboration with Astrid Mayak
Climate Design Toolkit is a prototype card game and public engagement tool that I co-created, designed, and illustrated to help planners, designers, policymakers, and community members explore neighborhood-scale climate resilience through play.
Players navigate climate hazards including coastal flooding, extreme precipitation, heat, and drought while working together to build holistic, place-based strategies. Rather than defaulting to high-cost, high-tech fixes, the Toolkit foregrounds low-tech, decentralized, and community-scaled approaches that can be combined into larger systems of resilience.
I designed the game structure and illustrated 82 unique tool cards, translating complex climate adaptation concepts into accessible visual prompts for workshops, classrooms, public programs, and community conversations. As both a visual communication project and an engagement strategy, the Toolkit uses play to support systems thinking, collaboration, and more legible public dialogue around climate resilience.
I have presented and facilitated the Toolkit at venues including the 2024 International Downtown Association Annual Conference, Urban Design Forum, Parsons School of Design, and Pratt Institute.
